Personal
Everything can be blamed on a youthful passion for soccer. Growing up in suburban Florida in the late 1970s/80s required looking outside my social community to follow my sporting interests, ultimately sparking a life-long interest in learning languages and talking with people across cultures. I remain a fan of the German club Borussia Mönchengladbach and still enjoy attending games around the world wherever possible…especially at the stadiums of lower-division clubs in the less popular and often peripheral leagues of Asia.
My music interests range from Golden Age Bollywood to Mongolian punk to contemporary American polka. I am a certified amateur radio operator, licensed sUAV pilot, organic agricultural inspector, pesticide applicator, trained beekeeper, certified professional horticulturist, grassroots soccer referee, and scuba diver. I have worked for over eight years as an organic and conventional farmer in several countries and hold a secret but growing desire to find the time to obtain the qualifications necessary to become a journeyman plumber.
I participate in a variety of endurance sports including ultrarunning, open water swimming, distance cycling, endurance walking, sweep rowing, sculling, and cross-country skiing. I am a Road Runners Club of America certified running coach.
I serve as an AUXOP-qualified volunteer in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
I am a fan of all things cephalopod especially in their roles as prophesiers, fellow complex biological entities, and the main ingredient of an evening meal.
Finally, I currently live with my family in a rural community in the Downeast region of coastal Maine.
